What is the cheapest way to get 5-lugs? I just purchased an 80 notch, and i want to put the bullits on, and i was wondering what car to hunt for for in the junkyard for parts. I don't care if it has to be drums, just want the 5-lugs. Looking to spend less than 600-700 bucks. any help is appreciated, thanks guys.

basicly, get the front brake hardware, shocks struts, and the rear spindles(i think) from a 5.0 then u can order the upgrade that is offered to the five oh's

i think summit has the front and rear converson if u use the 5.0 hardware, i think it runs about $299 for each

then again, i could be wrong lol

If your 80 notch is a 2.3L, 2.8L, or 3.3L car it will more than likely have the 9" front brakes and you might as well upgrade to 11" V8 spindles, rotors, and calipers. I used 89 LX spindles, 83-84 Lincoln Town Car 5 lug rotors and Lincoln 70mm calipers. In the rear I have a Lincoln 8.8" disc brake rear but you can use the Ranger axles and drums mentioned on the site Dan P. mentioned. That site is very good, I have it bookmarked and at top of the mustang links list.

the absolute cheapest way to get 5-lug is to go to your local u-pull and pull the front 5-lug rotors off of a 83-95 2.3 ranger as well as the axle/hub from out back (get both hubs if they're there in good shape so you'll know you've got a matched pair), then if there's no other 2.3 rangers, just rob an axle from the opposite side on a mid 80's aerostar.

Then, just grind down the outer edges of the dustcap on the ranger rotors so that they come to a point instead of being flat since the inside center of the bullitt wheels will contact this part and not let them sit flush.

this is literally what I did for my 88 and it cost me $63.

I didnt even have to have the rotors or hubs turned since I searched around in the yard and found some that were practically brand new

Will the ranger discs fit on the factory front spindles? the car is a 2.3. What about the caliper in front? Do i have to change any lines?

Sorry, just answered my own question, just had to read.. That site is awesome! Thanks for all the help guys. Will the bullit wheels rub at all?

How are the axles held in place? Snap rings?

Please measure the stock rotors on the 80 Notch. I dont think they will be 10" which means you cant run the 10" Ranger rotors.

You will need to upgrade to later model 10" front brake spindles before you can run the Ranger 10" 5 lug rotor swap. IIRC any 2.3L Mustang 1985-1993 will have the 10" rotors as stock.

The axles on the 7.5" and 8.8" rears are held in place with C-clips which are located in the center section.

yeah, you pop off the center cover and pull out the pin in the middle of the diff and then push the axles in, pull out the clips, and slip the axles out of the housing.

though, if you're at the junkyard and the retainer pin's little bolt doesn come out easy, I'd move on to another rearend

I took the front rotors off a ranger, and the axles off two rangers. Takign the ranger axles out proved good practice for replacing the ones on the stang.

Remember to get the right Bearings. You need one set from the stang, one set from the ranger. Forget which is which tho.

I am actually going to swap out the fronts for SN95 spindles this summer.

oh yeah! forgot about that until you said that. The spindle bearings inside the ranger rotors didnt fit the mustang spindles when I did mine. I just re-used the bearings from my mustang's rotors inside the ranger rotors and it worked just fine.

Yes it will. I'm using the same setup under my '91.

What's been missed here is that you'll need the Ranger's wheel seals and dust cap for the rotors. You may need to clearance wither the calipers or the rotor as they can rub just a tiny bit. If you decide to clearance the caliper, don't get carried away removing metal. It doesn't take much at all to get them to clear if they rub.
