Ok once again that damn check engine light is back on. Autozone pulled the code and its the same one p1443. I have checked eveything that people have told me to look at and nothing looks wrong. Anyone have anymore help on this one? It looks like I am going to take the stang to the shop on Monday if I cant find the problem this weekend.

I just called autozone and they called it the purge valve and thats a ford only part.... They also told me to check the hose connecting to the purge valve. I have looked though the book and I dont see a picture with the location of the purge valve, does anyone know where it is? and what the H*ll it looks like?

Not sure about the pre 98s,but the 99+'s will fry the CPU if you let a check engine light stay on for more than 8hours.A local mecanic told us that,so not sure if its true  but just thought I would warn ya.BTW he told us about it so we wouldnt fry it on a 00 V6 that my dad has. :D

If that's the case my car would be dead. I have had a MIL since last weekend. Aside from it being annoying, it doesn't hurt anything. Unless you have a major problem you don't fix.

problem soved

I had that same code come up over a month ago. Fixed it in 30 min and 70 bucks. There is a purge valve(~$40), and selenoid(~$30) that goes after it. My cousin, who works as a mech. at the dealership told me to replace both. Whats $70 i say when you have that ugly yellow light in your face all the time. The service shop at the dealership had the parts, bought them, changed them out. No more light.
They are located by the firewall on the back passenger side. They are on a long small tube running from your TB somewhere around there. One of them has some wiring hooked up, the other doesn't. I suggest maybe switching out the tube pieces too( both about 12" long), as mine were kind of grody. I would take a pic, but camera is broke. I could draw one for ya, heh. Hope that helps.

yay, i finally helped someone on here. :nice:

P1443 is one of many evaporative emissions fault codes. EEC V has to keep track of the fuel vapors in the system and how much of it is let back in the engine. It does so a number of ways but to cut to the chase, your code is usually caused by either the Purge Flow Solinoid (valve) or the Purge Flow Sensor. Replace them both and get them from Ford. Sometimes the carbon canister will deposit little bits of carbon dust in the sensor. Remove the sensor and tap it lightly over a piece of paper, if little black specs fall out, your cansiter should be replaced also.
