Check Engine Code - P1131

I've been having a check engine code off and on for the past few weeks and just got around to getting it checked out today at Advanced Auto. I got two codes of P1131. So I came home and looked it up.. another thread here on Stangnet says "P1131 Lack of Upstream Heated Oxygen Sensor Switch - Sensor Indicates Lean - Bank No. 1"

So.. what does this mean? How can I fix it? The car seems to be eating up more gas lately than usual, could that be related?

probably need a new o2 sensor. buy both the right and left bank ones because the other one usually goes out after you put in a new one, nothing mechanical but that damn murphy likes to see it happen.

Also.. anyone have directions for replacing an O2 sensor? (or two)

did it throw any other codes, i just looked up this article http://autorepair.about.com/cs/generalinfo/l/bl827d.htm
and if it did this could be your problem

Thanks.. that sounds really similar to my problem.

Can I just switch out the sensor or do I have to get a whole new MAF?

the cars that i have fixed it on i just changed out the MAF with another stock one and the problem goes away unless they used a K&N or another oil type air filter. usually as a result of overoiling.
