ive had my Prochamber o/r H pipe on for almost 2 years now, and the check engine light has been on just as long. all of a sudden, the other day, it turned off..never to return..at first i thought the bulb blew, but it lights up when i crank the car...what could have caused this??

thats odd. only a ford powertrain engeneer could answer that one. it must have to do with the programing.

after so many drive cycles if it doesnt see the same error/code it erases it.

2 years of drive cycles is a little extreme. it;s only a couple of cycles without a fault for most monitors.

only thing i can think of is somehow the sensors are in range now.

Maybe your sensors are so gummed up with rotten egg smelling stuff that it can't even detect any of it at this point?

your right, straight from the horses mouth, PCED

The OBD-II system monitors for malfunctions either continuously, regardless of driving mode, or non-continuously, once per drive cycle during specific drive modes. A pending DTC is stored in the PCM keep alive memory (KAM) when a malfunction is initially detected. This pending DTC may be erased on the third vehicle restart after two consecutive drives cycles with no malfunction. However if the malfunction is still present after two consecutive drive cycles, the MIL is illuminated. Once the MIL is illuminated, three consecutive drive cycles without a malfunction detected are required to extinguish the MIL. The DTC is erased after 40 engine warm-up cycles once the MIL is extinguished.

this is really strange how this check engine light turned off.

I wonder if ford programmed it to turn off the cat monitior system if the light stays on for a extended period of time ( like 2 years) 2 years is long enough to go thru state inspections a couple of times. and if you dont live in a emmisions state you may not bother fixing it.

so if that is the case then disconnect the battery to clear the computer and it should fire right up! I am gonna lay a bet down that maybe your fuel pump went out! Or something like that! Start from the begining are you getting spark? Are you getting fuel! Don't narrow down your options with guesses it makes fixing it alot harder!

i cant figure it out at all...all your guessing have been pretty insightful thoughts guys, thanks. it still hasnt come back on, which is weird. i recently installed a whiteface guage overlay, which required disconnecting the gauge assembly...however, the light was still on when i connected it back again, and shut off only a couple days later. maybe this has something to do with it? i dunno...weird, but im glad that thing is finally off.

oh yea, and theres no emmisions testing in Fl...

this one has me stumped. now that i think of it there is no way ford would have programmed it to give up after a few years. just in case the car was resold in a emissions state. the only other thing i can thing of is both sensors are stuck within the limits of a normal reading for the cat monitors. since the cat monitor 02's don't switch this will not lead to other 02 sensor codes (circuit malfunctions, slow response)
