I can afford the down time, though would rather not

Mind telling how much you paid for your PI Cams? Buy them used?

I found brand new 2004 PI cams on eBay for $200.00.
I got all the other parts from my local Ford parts department.
It sucks when things snowball on you.

Very true you will not know where to start without any codes read.
I had my Ford mechanic install my PI cams at his shop and I belive the
fool probably did skip a tooth on the timing chain either at the cam or
crank and didn't say anything to me.
I am not going to waste my time with it and I will let the Ford pros and
a Ford service department take care of it.Sorry I don't shop at Autozone
and never will they are morons.
Having worked on Subaru's for ten years if this were a problem with
a Subaru it would be a peice of cake simple as that.

haha, well like many of the ford techs on here can attest, you cant always trust a mechanic @ a dealership. it is possible he screwed up. but you should bring the car back to him and just say "hey i didnt pay you $xx just for you to hack the job." But hey, live and learn, hopefully they will fix it up for you. I only suggested autozone because they will pull the code for free...

Well my SOTP feeling is definitely a lot better, the response is MUCH better. Before when you'd floor it the car would respond like "uhh...I suppose I could accelerate, but only for a little bit then I don't really want to"

Now its like YAY pedal lets go fast! I'd say the cam swap is fairly simple. Don't waste your money on the Anderson cam tool, just use a c-clamp and vice grip...refer to my install thread linked in my sig for my take on it and how we did it. Overall i'd say difficulty-wise it was probably a 7. Nerve-racking wise it was a 10 just because of all the bad thoughts stangnet put in my head as to what could happen if it skipped a tooth on the crank, so believe me, I made sure with every ounce of will I had in me that PLENTY of upwards pressure was on the cam gear/chain when we swapped the cam itself.
