i have a 98gt auto. about 80k on the clock. here is my issue, check engine will come on after along drive, an hour or so but only after a piss stop. maybe 10-15 min. stop. now the drive to work is 9 miles one way. my girlfriend will drive it to work no check engine light. she does the speed limit (65-70). when i drive it (80-85) yes i know i am speeding. but no light. the code is for right bank s1 lean. new plugs wires & coils. also 3-stage efi cleaning. have replaced vac lines, pcv,. only things done to the car is aftermarket mufflers & k-n airfilter. ford deal says replace all 4 o2senors & go from there. that is about $400. than still have same code not me. any help will be great. thanks.if this helps 4 fords in one driveway.

Shouldnt be hard to change it yourself though it can take a little work to narrow down the culprit. Confirm its a bad 02 by swapping the one from the right to left and vice versa. If the code moves then thats the bad one and you just replace that one. I would recommend getting an o2 socket to make life easier.

Couldn't you buy one new 02, read the ohm's resistance value of that, now check all 4 to that number and whomever is out of spec is you have 5 numbers is replace the one that falls out of spec is replace all 4 is usually one component or faulty wire is I said a single wire.
Yeah, and that wire sends the out of spec reference signal just a tad of a nad going in and out of code is if were fuel or age it would show all 4 codes to the banks is narrow down the bank is see data?
Easy asspie. Yeah, Right!

all have good ideas. but why after a long trip? i know 9 miles may not be long a drive. the lt. went out on the way to yesterday. my girlfriend went out of town this past weekend. no lt. drove around, then on the way back it came on. poss. ecm. car has a miss at idle. and today on the way home(me driving 60-70) the best way to say this is, it hunted for the right gear. going to scan it.give me a few mins. & i will have codes. thanks.

As for O2 sensors, I replaced mine at 100k but they had been causing my car to miss or "hitch" for about 20k miles. I got mine at rockauto.com and they were only $32/each. I only replaced the upstream ones and everything is working just great now.
