Check Engine Light with Tach Adapt Install?

I currently have a 2002 mustang gt and I tried setting up my phantom monster tach with the tach adapt, and it powers on, but the needle for the rpms doesnt move. Also a ford dealer told me because the tach is not connected properly, that my check engine light is on. Has anyone came over this problem or know what I did wrong? thanks
