My friends check engine light came on so he checked the codes and said it was running, lean, rich, lean, rich, what would the problem be? Is it the maf went bad or something else?

get the code number and call ford, they have probably seen that code a few times and will tell u what u need. Your computer is trying 2 compensate for something u r probably wasting more fuel than usual.

What are the exact codes on that? The o2 sensors when looked at on the data stream are supposed to go lean/rich/lean that is their job to be constantly monitoring the a/f ratio. That is how the ecm runs your car. A little more info would be great in diagnosing your problem.
