Over the last 3 weeks, my check engine light has come on about 4 times. When this happens, all the gauges look good and the car is still running smoothly. If I turn off the car and restart it, the light will go off and stay off.

I am going to stop by Autozone tomorrow and see if they can get me the codes.

Car is running great except for the CEL poping on for some unknown reason.

Anyone have an idea where to start? I probably know the first answer, get the codes

Thanks, Hope everyone has a nice Memorial Day. Take time to remember those that are serving and those that have served

Autozone pulled a code 72, they said MAF Sensor, but when I check my Haynes manual it says a code 72 is Mass Air Flow sensor signal fluctuation.

I remember a mechanic friend telling me that sometimes the K&N filter will cause the MAF sensor to act up when some of the oil blows by on it. He said they have some stuff at the shop that works good cleaning it.

So, I'm thinking that it may need. Has anyone ever cleaned theirs and maybe a how-to please.

There is an aerosol product that is called Mass Air Sensor Cleaner. I think CRC makes it. I would imagine any parts retailer would have it. Call around. I would imagine instructions are going to be printed on the can.

Well, got the Mass Air Flow Cleaner from O'Reilly Auto Parts and the anti-theft screwdriver bits from Autozone (cheaper). I just sprayed the sensor wires good, didn't do any wiping on them. If the light comes back on I will be a little more aggressive with a q-tip. I also used the cleaner on the mesh screen. It cleaned up nicely with the cleaner.

Here are some pics to go with the project.

Well the check engine light came back.. I had to take the pony to the shop for the a/c, so I had them check the code. They say my oxygen sensor is going out. Told them to replace it while they had it there. Just not in the mood for repairs this week. If it comes back I'll post again.

Here's a pic of the oxygen sensor they had to replace. It was the one just below the manifold, the closest one to the engine. Seems to be running a little smoother now.
