Check engine prove?

Sorry for all the posts guys, I have off this week and have been working on the mustang alot. Does the check engine light prove out(illuminate) when the key is turned on initially. My car runs great but the light doesn not turn on but it did yesterday when starting the car, tried it today and nothing. I checked this while playing with my alarm

I don't think the CEL comes on when I start mine either. I haven't looked (or been in my car) in a while though so I am starting to forget things.

OK guys pulled the alarm out and cel comes on key on engine off. Didnt do that when alarm was in but its out now

That's how it should be AFAIK. The CEL is one of the most important lights to have prove-out (as a self diagnostic of it's ability to illuminate). I dont have one though (SD) so I wasn't sure.

The bulbs burn out after 20 years.
