Check oil light!!!! Please help

i have an 89 gt with a 5.0 basically stock except for an e303 cam, bbk shortys into off road h pipe.... about a week ago the check oil light went off so i checked the oil and it was low... this is strange to me because im meticulous with my cars and the maintenance.... so i check the oil plug make sure it wasnt leaking and it wasnt and the seal around the pan is good as well as the oil filter... so i come home tonight and the check oil light hits again as im backing into my drive way... and again it about a quart low... the motor only has 86,xxx original miles on it and runs like a champ.. since ive had the car iv maybe raced it once or twice as my licence is about gone so im not tryin to do dumb sh** to loose it... it doesnt smoke at idle or normal driving conditions but my buddy notice the other nite when i layed into it a bit messin with some girls that is would smoke... like i said im meticulous with my cars and its always had maintenance done before needed and i run nothin but synthetic in it... im hopin the motor isnt going bad as i just bought a couple power adders for it.... any thoughts on why it is doing this will be greatly appreciated

you need to test the compression on all 8 cylinders this info. will tell you alot. if you don't have a compression test guage and hoses wal-mart sells them for about $25...heres a link to some info below (click on link) on compression testing and how to properly test...post results...i would also check the intake tube for signs of oil being sucked into intake from intake hose which connects to the intake tube or air box also oil can be sucked into intake from pcv valve inspect these areas hoses and or pcv valve can be stopped up causing excess pressure to build up in other areas which would cause oil to blow by even in some cases a stopped up air filter will cause oil to be sucked into intake and the compression test will diagnosis or rule out bad rings which can burn oil and cause increased crankcase pressures...

It's pretty normal for even a healthy 5.0 to burn between 1/2 quart to 1 full quart between oil changes. If it's been a couple thousand miles since your last oil change, than that's likely what happened if you see no evidence of an oil leak.

Hell, if you read the owners manual, and this was when the car was new mind you, it says that the motor will burn some oil normally and to expect to top it off between oil changes.

If it's excessive, than that can be a sign of worn piston rings or worn valve stem seals.

ill do the compression test to see what the deal is... im hopin its not the rings.... i just bought a supercharger, heads, intake manafold, throttlebody, injectors and a mass air... along with a some other parts to put on it and im going to be pissed if its the ring and i have to pay to have bottom end work done...

I also agree...with almost 90k on the clock and the fact that you are about to bolt on an additional 150hp w/ boost, heads, and intake...its probably not a bad idea to rering/rebearing the bottom end. 500 bucks and some wrench time will give you peace of mind after bolting that blower on there.

a stock low mileage shortblock 35k with a brand new F cam and timing chain. This is complete to the oil pan. $450 plus shipping

i just ran across this on corral.net and am thinking of swaping my bottem end for this one then throw my new sh** on it.... whats your opinions on this and has anyone seen this ad....
