hey all, went to raceway park in Indianapolis yesterday.......it was truck bash and import drags going on. bad day for me! its my first run with a RWD car at the track, and the stock goodyears are about worthless!! so needless to say, i beat some highly modified WRX who was claiming to the tech officials he thought he would runs 12's!! i rocked him twice and moved on to the nexy. so i got railer by many a DSM and supras and SR20 swapped cars, but my best time was 14.42 and dont remember the mph. i thought the GT could run 14.0?? i only have flowmasters welded in and a k&n drop in filter.......all stock other than that. is that normal or is my car the ugly duckling? oh and its a 5-speed and average was 2.2 60ft.

The cars definitly capable of low 14's or high 13's stock. Work on your 60's, you can drop another .1 or so from that. Drive it like you stole it, and you will pull lower times. As said, temp, elevation, and humidity all are important in getting a good time.

All I can tell you is that IRPs track prep blows. Unless its some big national event, the traction level is that of a dusty secondary road. Also, not that every import owner is an idiot, but seeing that you went to an import show I would almost bet that for every 12-sec DSM, SR20-powered 240, or VW 1.8T there were probably a dozen 18-second Civic DXs or Cavaliers that drove through the water box straight to the line. The same idiots do it on Tuesday night down there and it wreaks havoc on everybody elses 60ft times. So I wouldn't worry about your times and just concentrate on your driving. A 1.9 60ft would get you 14-flat or maybe a 13.9x.

I went down last Tuesday for Test and Tune and have never been so disappointed in that track before. I posted this message at the Corral in the Indy thread:

I'm not on here much, but I just wanted share my thoughts on IRP tonight. While it was a really nice night for the weather, I have never seen such a total cluster**** at that track. I'm not usually one to bitch and whine, but for my $15 I don't expect the following:

- Staging lane gridlock due to nobody directing the lanes
- Nobody spraying water in the waterboxes (last two runs)
- The guy at the end of the track was handing out slips that didn't belong to me (and quite a few other guys I talked to)
- The times and speeds on my slips don't jive. One run I was running 114mph at the 1/8th mile
- Evidently the Indianapolis area has recently had a time change because they ran us off 45minutes- 1hr early.
- None of the boards worked until about 7:30-8pm which made watching the cars while waiting to run almost pointless.

I'm going to start going to Muncie.

Your times are w/in the normal range for a stock GT especially considering the other variables already mentioned. Too bad you don't remember your trap speeds because that would tell a lot too.

I have a friend with a best 1/4 mile of 14.6...he spins too much.

I am sure better tires will knock .2 to .3 off (and I am not talking about DR's or slicks, just better street tires). Also, make sure your tire pressure is correct for racing, this will help you a bunch. Try dropping the pressure in the rear to 20 psi. And, remove your right front head light. Some guys will say running on an empty tank of gas helps, but that can hurt too if you are having traction problems.

If you do this things and drive the car the same exact way, you could easily be right at 14.
