Checking pushrod

I am going to go out and buy a checking pushrod. Can anyone tell me how to use this thing and what else I need if anything. I have never done this before. I will be using this on a 302 stockheads Fcam

That's a good link. Keep in mind though, the illustration they're showing is drastic. You won't see that much of a sweep on the valve stem.
