You're not the only one. I can't remember when, but I've had a lady ask me if it was a Chevy ...

That's fine. As long as they don't call it a Camaro.

Some people just have no interest in knowing, there is plenty I don't know about under water basket weaving.

I took many classes relating to that subject

I've never had the Chevy comment, all I ever get is the Pinto comments

The people who seem to get things mixed up the most are the gas station attendants. I have been asked numerous times, "Ya got a 350 in there?" I usually answer, "Seeing as how this is a ford and a 350 is is small-block chevy engine, the answer is no! Just stick to pumping the gas." The stupidity of some people never ceases to amaze me.

I've gotten that once, a couple months ago. At a gas station too! I think its because the 350 is so ubiquitous, everyone has heard of it., and those who dont know squat try to drop the term to impress people.

"got a 350 in there?"

"yeah it has double pumper turbo jets in it with three-quarter advanced pistons too"

"awesome dude. How fast will it go?"
"200"
"sweeeet".

I will say I get a lot of "Is that a 5.0?" And get dissapointed by the fact it's a 4.6 as if a smaller number automatically means slower ...

So much in fact I was parked outside Schucks one night with my hood popped showing my friend something. Guy walks up and said it's a beautiful car, he loves the silver color etc ... "Is this a 5.0?"

Nope, it's a 4.6

"Oh ... "

Went on for a while, until I fired it up and he looked shocked. Apparently he thought the whole time it was a v6 ... simply because of the smaller number. That was pretty crazy. And nevermind the fact it seems like 98% of stangs on the road is some chick in a v6.

Yeah, I've heard that a lot. "at least its a 5.0 and not a wimpy 4.6" and its like wimpy 4.6??? wtf? ha ha.

Another good one I like is, when someone asks about it, then spout off about their 400hp camaro that would beat my ass. Its always 400hp and always a camaro, especially if the subject has a mullet. And of course, they never drive the camaro, its at their aunt's house or something.

True. But think about it ... wouldn't an LS1 in a notch be pretty cool? Heresy or not...

Of course ... it's always Camaro that isn't there, or is in the process of getting new head gaskets.

I live in a redneck town and it's hard for the die hard Chevy fans to leave you alone about it. I can't believe how some people go out of their way to display their displeasure for anything that isn't a Chevy and trash on your ride.

Hehehehe... Yeah, it has found a certain place in my heart.

The LS1 really is as good as anything around in a number of factors, and it's an engine that I now know like the back of my hand.

Would I do an LS1 in my notch? Well, yes, but I chose a different path. My Mustang was bought (as many are) because it was a big rear end in a light car with a cheap V8. Getting the car into the 11s will not cost much.
The LS1 would be the untimate NA ticket in the car. The engine weighs over 200 lbs less than a 5.0 completely dressed. With heads, cam, and a good program, its makes a streetable 430 rwhp. The automatic 4l60E would make for a incredible drag car. But all of this for $3500+ for the engine/trans $500 for the Kmember adapters, etc etc. And then I'd still have a chevy engine in a 93 SSP Coupe...
I got my recent 50hp in the mustang for less than $500. My next purchase is Dave's brother's S-trim. I hope to be at a reliable 480 rwhp at that point for another $2000.

Is it a good idea for outright drag speed? Sure. Would it retain the value I have in my 93 SSP Coupe? No. Would it be as cheap as a S-trim? No. I'm not going to put a rollbar in the car (ie I will get no more than one run in at the track), so would it make any difference for goofing around on the street on the way to work? Nope.

If anyone else is interested, there is an enormous amount of discussion of LS1s in Foxes at www.ls1tech.com under Hybrids/Conversions...

Hmmm... you used "reliable", and "480 rwhp" in the same sentence with an implied "302"?

I have one more thing to ad to this. One day i was over on MLK in portland and i had the dumps on i was going slow cause i was in the consturction zone. So this worker asked me whats that thing got in it? And i say well it aint no hemi . Now for the rest, the reason i started this is i was out on one of the test drives, matter of fact it was the first after doing the mod's last weekend so me and MONGOOSE swung by a BLOND girl's house that's on here and as we were leaving she say's get that chevy out of here I guess it was cause of the wicked header to collector leak i had that made the car sound like chit and made her think it was a chev ? peace

I resent that.

Also, I hardly see ANY girls driving stangs. Not around here. Or if she is- she's only drivin' the husband around. Lame.
