Hi guys. Soon I am going to be putting a 331 stroker in my 89GT. I've been told that I need a chip to install in the computer. Can anyone point me in the right direction to get a good chip that will maximize the engines potential? ANY HELP WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. Thanks a lot.

You do not need a chip to run the new 331 engine. ANy chip that is installed and properly tuned will help you get the max out of your combo. But with the larger engine, and prob larger heads, you will needs larger injectors and a maf calibrated to the injector size.

The displacement increase is not enough to require a tune...
All the supporting stuff may do some weird things to your idle & drivability...

What's the rest of the combo?

You probably don't *need* a tune though...

It's a 331 stroker with airflow research heads, 30# injectors, 70mm mass air flow , 70mm throttle body, and trick flow intake. It will also have BBK shorty headers and offroad h-pipe w/o cats.

That seems like a tune would be in order. The last thing I would ever want to see happen to someone is for their new stroker with nice heads/intake/etc. to be lost because they didn't spend the extra $300 for a nice tune.

Where can I get a GOOD chip? All suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Just about everything you order over the interweb will be a waste of cash.

Look around for local tuning shops. It should run around $700.

The other option is to invest in a tuning device, and create your own tune.
A tweecer RT will run $580
A Moates setup will be cheaper, but won't allow datalogging...

find a reputable mustang in your area/an area you are willing to drive/tow it to. Mail order tunes usually suck, as they are not combo/car specific.
