i have a chirping noise and i wanted to get a few opinions before pulling the tranny just to change the TOB. i had the same chirping sound when i first got the car but it would do it at idle and anytime the clutch was engaged, and go away as soon as you disengage or apply pressure the clutch. now the new sound only does it when the car is moving regardless of weather the clutch engaged or disengaged, and goes away as soon as the car stops moving. what else could it be? any suggestions? if the noise does not go away when you disengage the clutch can i rule out the TOB as the source?

It's not going to be your TOB based on what you've said. Check your brake pads. They have a "cricket" to warn you of excessive wear.

Worn belt tensioner? Check if it's bouncing around or bottoming out.

It could still be TOB related. If you can, see if you can possibly put the car on stands and run it through gears trying to isolate the sound. If you're running the factory aluminum bearing retainer on the trans, it could very well be worn past its useful limit.

i put in a rebuilt tranny about 6 months ago so the retainer is new.
