This is the third time I've been pulled over for speeding in two months. This last time I was going only 75 mph in a 65 on I-215 in So. California, when everyone else was averaging 85-90. I'm not even trying to speed, b/c if I really wanted to, we all know how easy and how fast we could go in a GT. I swear the cops just have it out for my mustang. Does anyone suggest a radar/laser detector? Do those things actually work well, or do they still pick up supermarket doors? I'm wondering if I should get one, but have no idea on what to look for. I use this car for shows and don't want to race it and ruin the nice paint. I think they just get their jollies on pickin' on me, thinking I can afford the ticket (even though ALL my money goes to the car payments and insurance, hehe!).
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys!

I drive the 215 once a week for work, and I always go exactly 65. CHP is always on that freeway. It may sound simple but the best way to avoid a speeding ticket is to not speed.

Honestly, it takes me maybe an extra 10 minutes on my 45-mile trip when I drive at 65 vs. going 75/80. To me it's not worth it.

Thinking you can afford the ticket? The Mustang is a CHEAP car in So. Cal.

Upland Cal PD got me two days after I got the car...

Upland PD pulled me over the second day I had the GT [3-28-05]. Not for speeding though, as I was sitting next to him at a light: I wasn't wearing my seatbelt and the officer helpfully pulled me over for a "safety equipement check". Since he could see through the window that I wasn't wearing it [two blocks from the dealer]. Then he asked me about the car; was it the v8, etc. Still gave me a $56 ticket though.

I drive up the 210 and I-15 from LA to Victorville and back three or four times a week, and I've noticed nearly everyone is going slower since they've been cracking down on speeders [easy money for the state and county], so I try to use my cruise control more to keep my speed in check.

I drive Highway 17 in CA from San Jose to Santa Cruz a couple times a week. The CHP is notorious for catching people with their radar, and they sit just off the road and around a curve so the radar locks on as soon as you round the corner. I've been using the Escort S2 for several years and it has saved me many times and will go off long before I go through the corner. I would advise anyone who regularly travels a road known to have police using radar to invest in a good detector.

Tickets suck, but we all know the rules. If you're going to break the rules, your complaints will more than likely fall on deaf ears. I speed myself (+5 street, +10 metro highway); got busted once doing 49 in a 45 construction area. ****, it sucks, but if I slow down 5mph, I'll get to my destination all of 3 minutes later!

It seems like we have it more strict in CA. I was watching the news the other day and it was talking about this speed issue. They showed a cop (in another state) with his radar out. He let people go going 75-80 but as soon as he got someone over 80 he pulled them over. I have no excuses though becuase i was going 62 in a 40 zone.

I know we only lose a few minutes when going at the posted speed limit. I just have to suck it up and lose more than that since everywhere I go (ie LA, San Diego) are at least a few hours away (I'm out in the desert past and above Palm Springs) for work. Oh well. Thanks for your understanding guys!

If we all went the posted speed only then why would we by a mustang.. unless you want to roll it like a pimp master flex.. haha
If I'm going way over or zomming in and out of traffic.. then bust me.. but if I'm in an open road and NOT hitting 100+ then dont bother me =-) .. the police are getting hit and this is their way of making money.. that = BS.. this is why I laugh at people that say we need more police

Hey, think of the up-side - - - at least your car isn't "Arrest Me Red" or "Screaming because I got another ticket Yellow" - - - you probably saved yourself a few tickets just because you have a less noticable color.

You gotta be kidding me man!! They popped you at 75MPH in LA? People driving 75mph in LA are normally given high-beams to pull over.. Thats ridiculous.. You should easily be able to float around 80mph, and still be passed by the taxi drivers... I am with you.. If you got popped going 75mph in LA, your a marked man.. They are after you for some reason..

My advice is use the cruise control more often.. Set the cruise to 65mph.. Then while driving, if you need more speed apply the gas. This way, when you let-up, it drops back to 65 without taping the brakes, allowing the CHP officer behind you to see the brake lights.. Also, avoid the 215 for at least 6 months.. Your the topic of the early morning CHP meeting.. The discussion is how fast they can get your license revoked and cause you to stop enjoying a New Mustang.. Trust me, they all know you license plate number..

i drive the 215 and go past cops at 70-75, they dont do anything >.< I normally go 80-85. Ive seen people go like 90. Normal flow of traffic is around 75 so i dont know why you got ticketed.

Cruise control is your friend.

We have a 'Screaming Yellow" and it's been 4 weeks now and not pulled over once -

Anytime you are doing more 5mph over the speed limit, you are fair game to any bored cop I think - seems to be the rule around here. Certainly that is the rule I stick to and I don't have problems (touch wood!) in my C5 which stands out like a sore thumb since it's loud (well, when I get on thas gas) and the bright blue paint is hard to miss. Cruise control... it doesn't just save your feet .

Hell, try being the ONLY Black GT in a small suburb. You wanna talk about Police having it out for you.

Two of the times I was pulled over were for BS... One was before I had a front plate (The day I got my tags), and the other for not yeilding a lane to a HOT unit on the shoulder (Didn't know that was a law), and he was just doing paperwork.

Funny, both (And I quote) stated "WE 05 GT owners expect more attention to the road... I think they just wanted to screw with me. Never even ran my license.

You guys drive an "eye catcher!" The retro look gets a lot of attention, good and bad. Get use to it! That is why Ferrari and Porsche drivers loaf around like 90 year olds most of the time because it they go 1.5 mph over they are toast!!! I like to fly under the radar . . . =-)
