Christmas comes late!

So Christmas comes late this year and honestly it's what I needed to get me back into the Mustang game. My gf got me a gift certificate to AM which I used to get the Hot Rod cams. They get here on Thursday. However, they probably won't go in the car right away as I'm trying to buy a house (so my Mustang (covered) and MINI don't have to sit outside anymore!) and that's the top priority, so the $$ for the dyno tune might have to wait.

However, for those of you who have done the cam swap, any words of advice as I think I'm going to try to put them in myself, with friends of course! (all of you are welcome to come help too!) I was searching for a write-up of an install but I didn't come across anything. Might have looked in the wrong spot as the forums have changed some since I was last 'involved.'

I have the NSR Comp Cams II from Brenspeed and spent a lot of time looking into doing it myself. However in the end with Ford refusing to sell me the required valve spring compressor and timing wedge I got a shop to do it for me. You should look into this problem of getting the required tools first. Some shops will not sell the compressor. Others online want anywhere from $150-300 for the compressor, and others yet have complained about long wait times and the difficulty of finding a 3 valve compressor. I have heard that the two valve compressor can work (I have not had this confirmed) and the cheapest I have seen them is from trick flow for approx 30 dollars (I think). In the end I shopped around and found a reputable shop to do it for around 100 dollars more than what I would have had to spend on specialized tools, and the car was in and out in an afternoon. I guess the only down fall is that I did not gain the knowledge or experience of doing it myself, but as long as it runs great I don't really care.

Having the correct specialty tools is key but, buying them can cost half the price of paying a professional install them and you wont be stuck with tools that you may never use again. You may be able to get a good deal on the tools on ebay or craigslist or just searching around if you are determined to do it yourself.

Yeah, I'm trying to find the tools I need. Some guys in my area have done it but the tools have floated around and we just gotta track them down.
