cigarette lighter replacement?

i feel really dumb for asking..but i have the center console apart to fix the ashtray door and iv had a new cigarette lighter laying around for years..so i try to remove the old but cant get it out...am i not doing it right? is there a special way to do it?

I've heard that with some lighters you have to unscrew the outer backshell of the lighter to disassemble them, but on mine you have to remove the 1/4" nut on the underside and remove all the little parts. If yours is the same make sure you put all the little parts back in the same order they were removed.

i was gonna replace mine but couldn't figure out how to remove it short of using a sledge hammer. good question though cause i wanna know.

He's right about that... So easy to get it back together the wrong way...
I cracked the cermaic insert and never did get it put back together correctly.
