Alright i have spent all day searching and this is what i have issues with. I just put an 03 4.6 2v engine in my 96 gt and as soon as it was started there was a clacking noise that sounded like valvetrain rattle but new head gaskets were installed, new lash adjusters and cam followers were all good. I also replaced the timing gears, chains, guides and adjusters. I cannot pinpoint the noise but it sounds like its right in the water pump area or favoring the drivers side. I took the valve covers back off and theres barely any oil coming out of the lash adjusters on the drivers side. There are no oil restrictors to check for gasket debris clogging. My only thought is that i got a bad timing tensioner out of the box. I have heard if a tensioner is bad it would affect oil pressure on that side. The sound is not a knock but more of a clack clack clack and not a tick sound either and its more center front of the engine.

Don't think you have much choice but to tear down and check it out. Sucks!

New video after timing tensioners replaced. Not quite a hard rod bearing knock but has rotational loud tapping. Would this be piston slap? Last ditch effort before i pull the motor again.

Did you figure it out? Mine doesn't sound quite as bad, but it's a real similar sound. I did lash adjusters and the timing set, but it's still there.

I havent completely taken it apart but all i can find is #5 has a lot of slop in the bore. Rod and main bearings are tight. I can make the clank noise by hand so i am guessing severe piston slap.
