Clay Bar Questions???

Just bought a Meguiars clay bar and I'm going to do it for the first time. Here's my plan:
1. Wash with dish soap to remove old wax
2. Clay bar the car per instructions
3. Polish with Meguiar's #9 with Porter Cable
4. Meguiar's #7 Show Glaze
5. Meguiar's #26

How did I do? Any advice or anything you would change?

I wouldn't wash with dish soap. You really don't need to. The clay and polish will remove all of your old wax. Everything else looks good!

With the claybar remember to use plenty of lubrication and do small sections at a time. You don't have to apply any pressure,just let the clay glide over the paint. When it starts getting dirty just knead it to a clean section. Hope this helps!

I second that...I wouldn't wash the car with dish soap, just car wash soap. Also, some people like to wash the car after claying it. Sometimes the clay loosens sediments and contaminents in the paint, but they are still on the surface. Washing it removes these contaminents. Just something to think about...

THat being said, I dont wash my car after claying it. I do exactly like you said above.

I third skipping the dish soap. Dawn even has a blurb on thier site about not using thier stuff on cars. Just use a good quality wash.

I just did the claybar yesterday, amazing... You can feel the paint getting smoother. I though my paint was super clean but the clay got pretty discolored as I used it.

Two tips for you:
-constantly work the clay so you always have a fresh clay surface
-if you drop it on the ground, just throw it away... seriously...

These statements are right on. I always break the clay into 3 pieces. Put 2 back in the container or plastic bag. That way if you drop the piece you can throw it away and grab one of the other out. If you drop a full claybar you have to throw the whole thing away.

i havent tried the clay YET just cuz im a poor bum lol but im gonna buy it as soon as i get cash, my uncle used it on his 2001 cobra and it does wonders,
