I spray on the Simple Green pretty liberally and let it soak. Then I spray it off with LOW pressure water. Then I get the 200 mph leaf blower out and dry it off as much as possible. Then I start her up and let her reach operating temp to make sure she dries out ASAP. With Ford's coil-on-plug (read verticle) design, if you let water seep into the plug area, it could short out the spark plugs and cause a misfire or throw a code.

First thing I do it cover the MAF, alternator, and distributors with plastic bags. Then I spray the gunk on everything but the battery and brush the really dirty areas with a little brush. Don't use a brush with metal bristles though or you may leave scratches. After that rinse it off with low pressure. Make sure you get ALL the gunk off, especially around the spark plugs. I also spray high pressure water directly on the battery terminals to get all the build up off of them, then dry them really well with a cloth. Then I use armorall on the air filter box and the plastic at the front near the hood latch. Don't use armorall anywhere else though. I don't have an air compressor so I do this only on really hot days and leave the hood up for a couple of hours after I'm done. Last time I did this I noticed what looked like smoke coming from under the hood the next time I started the car up, but it was just a little bit of left-over rinse water evaporating.

what do you guys do to clean the powdery aluminum oxide off the intake, alternator, etc?
Is there a way to keep it from re-appearing?

Brush with a damp brush, maybe spray a little cleaner on the brush also. Then dry with a cloth. Don't spray anything directly on them though.

Would I need to cover up my tb/plenum and my mac intake?.. since they're polished or whatever.. I'd love to try that stuff because doing it by hand is such a pain, especially when your too short to reach some parts

Looks like time to clean up your brake reservoir.. that upper rad hose could use some some silicone lubricant too.

I bet once you start it for the first time it'll get a little dirtier.

Edit: I have my local dealership steam clean and polish everything every couple months.. it's like $29 .. dust gets in every nook and cranny here in AZ.
