I am looking for ideas to clean the alternator, intake manifold and other cast aluminum parts in the engine. I tried a concrete and driveway cleaner concentrate, but it is pretty corrosive. No rubber gloves were available....Brilliant!!! It does work however, but I thought maybe someone had something a little safer that they have used. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

wd-40 is an excellent cleaner for these parts and will not cut paint. Just spray it down with water when you're though. 0000 steel wool will also clean those parts quite well after you've removed the grease and grime.

The only aluminum cleaner I have ever used that worked as advertised is called Sled Brite Aluma Kleen. It is made for snowmobile aluminum tuneels and heat shields. You spray the stuff on, let it bubble and rinse it off after about a minute or two. It took about 12 feet of aluminum oxide off of my heads and intakes in ab out 2 minutes. A friend told me about it and I tried it. The stuff just flat out works!

You can by it in almost any snowmobile store or online at http://www.sledbrite.com/snowmobile.cfm
