Cleaning the J3

Can anybody tell me the best thing to use when cleaning the crap off the J3 service port connector? Thanks.

I used goo gone and when it dried, I took my knife and scraped the crap off.

How well does the goo gone work?
Do you just spread it over the contacts and then what, it comes off nice and easy? ..I wish.

I used rubbing alcohol and q-tips. Worked very nice, but took awhile.
