I've got a 92 motor in my Capri and wondering if the 1.7rr's will be ok with the E-303 cam I have and the fact that my heads have been milled about .015.

what kind of valve springs? pistons notched?

specs on cam again? i think you will have clearance problems with that though. why not just use a 1.6?

oh the e-cam, i thought it was an f

you should be ok with that, my cousin had that setup with stock flattop pistons and stock ported heads. lifts just over .500 i believe, stock springs are only good to .500 so you should upgrade them if you havent.

with the 1.7's youll be at .529. I dont know about clearance tho, someone else must have run this set up before. everyone will say tho that you should double check with clay anyways to make sure the valve wont hit the piston since everycar can be different, especially with tolerance stacking.

The higher ratio rockers make little difference in piston to valve clearance issues. Clearance is tight when both valves are open to about .080" during overlap; the 1.7's will only reduce your clearance by about 5 thousandths (.005"). The milling will reduce clearance by the amount of the milling.

With stock heads??? (you don't mention valve size) you'll likely be ok - but as others have said - YOU MUST MEASURE YOURS TO KNOW FOR CERTAIN. Going by what someone else tells you about their similar combo is no different than simply guessing and hoping you have enough clearance.

Peak lift is a non-issue with regard to clearance. The piston is WAY down the cylinder when the valves are open at peak. It's during overlap that there are issues - valves barely open/piston passing through tdc. Measure.

If you're running the Ecam with stock heads you may not be happy with the outcome. Below are Crane's suggestions for use of that cam - they designed it for Ford Racing and make the same cam - Crane Powermax 2040. The stock valve springs are quitters. With 1.7's you'll likely have valve float before you ever get to an rpm that will take advantage of the cam. And with stock heads and that cam - the bottom end of the engine will be noticeably diminished.

GOOD MID-RANGE AND STRONG TOP-END POWER, REQUIRES MODIFIED MASS AIRFLOW, AFTERMARKET INTAKE, PERF. CYLINDER HEADS AND HEADERS, MUST USE 5-SPD AND 3.55 OR NUMERICALLY HIGHER REAR GEARS. REQUIRES CRANE SPRINGS AND RETAINERS. (50 STATE LEGAL 85-93, C.A.R.B. E.O. D-225-46) BASIC RPM 2400-6000

I forgot to mention that the heads are still stock with stock valves. I already put in a spring and retainer kit from Crane when I installed the cam. So should I just go with some 1.6's just to be safe? Either way, it'll be better than using the stock rockers.
