Clime control vacuum selector switch

The detent in my A/C-Heater selector switch failed. The knob moves smoothly except in OFF. Everything still works fine.
I have been trying to search for a new selector without success. What is the part number and what is it called? The car has factory AC.

If I can't find a replacement, I will have to try to repair the old one.

Unfortunately I don’t believe that part is made anymore. My google results have turned up pretty empty. It’s called a mode door switch on most cars, although google searches have come up with a damper door switch as well.

Can you get the part number off the switch?

I'm 95% sure the parts, or the entire thing is interchangable.

The 1986 Taurus also came with the same setup as the 87-89 HVAC controls, if anyone is ever looking for parts for that one

Update:
The switches are not interchangeable on the whole. The faceplates are different. It appears the rear housing is interchangeable, along with some internals. The vacuum and electrical connections are identical.

On mine, the rear portion of the detent spring cavity busted off. I elected to build it up with an epoxy cap instead of trying to swap parts.

These are photos of the original Mustang part against the Taurus part. The Taurus part has the gray face.

It looks like you got it figured out. Ive had the same problem twice. Once with the original switch, then one I got off ebay about 10 years ago. But Ive since figured out the spring tension on the rear of the switch eventually breaks out the post and allows the detent ball to flop around. The connections are made through the ball. so without that spring, the switch wont work. You can only really notice this when looking at a working switch side by side with a broken switch Unless your head is in the dash of this thing constantly.
