clutch cable adjustment?

i read another thread about this but it didnt anwser my question.....how exactly to u adjust a clutch cable on my 88 GT mustang? i removed the engine and when i put it back i have to push the pedel to the floor but when im in gear the car still trys rolling just a little bit, ive been told the cable need to be adjusted, well how do i do this?
 
is the stock quadrant in there, or do you have an aftermarket one? you might get quicker info with a search - there are about 1000 threads on how to adjust a clutch cable.
basically, you want no freeplay, or even a little preload. it sounds like you are not disengaging the clutch all the way (too much freeplay)....good luck.
 
i believe its the stock cable, i tried the pull up method but it doesnt work. and for the nut jeffbigwood27 said there isnt one, i was looking online and it sayd to un huck it form the tranny then adjust it from the top of the clutch pedal...this right?
 
It should be self adjustable so it likely is on it's way out. :shrug: On older ones pre 83 I think or 81 you pull up on the clutch pedal and should here a click. But being 88 I cannot say. That is why they sell the aftermarket adjustables so you can adjust them yourself.

ok i looked under my dash and the self adjuster is all the way adjusted. when i had the clutch out i asked a mechanic if the clutch was still ok and he said as long as the grooves are still in the clutch it should be fine...is this true? if i do have to replace the clutch what size, when i look for them theres always a size.
 
You want a 10.5" clutch and you should get your flywheel
machined......believe me....and new throw out bearing is
a good idea, there are a few other things you should change
that are cheap while it is apart anyway....main seals..
ask a mechanic he will know. Get better than stock clutch!
 
there was a better then stock clutch in there, it was the king cobra ford racing clutch kit, it was put in there like 3.5 years ago and has almost 153k miles on it. so i think ill go with it again or any specific one i should look for?
 
:banana: its fixed for now! the self adjuster isnt adjusting itself, so i forced the quadrant up and thing the self adjusts down and now i dont have to push the clutch to the floor but only 3-4in and the clutch is disangaged. now since i dont have to replace the clutch just yet should i get a firewall adjuster or a new cable kit?
 
i would atleast get a new quadrant. or else when the stocker goes out, you are stuck. a cable would not be a bad idea. stock cables are the best liked, but you will need a FWA to make it work. aftermarket cables, while generally not as well liked, do normally have an adjustment at the fork.
