Clutch Cable/Bellhousing Issue

So I installled a new clutch for a friend and I got the bellhousing on, no tranny in yet, but when I go to hook the clutch cable up to the arm the throwout bearing is in, it won't reach. Is there some way to adjust something for it to, or should I pry the arm a little until it goes in?

Also is it normal for the throwout bearing to be seated so snug against the pressure plate assembly like that?

What overall setup does he have?
If it is the stock setup, then the quadrant must be reset to the number one position (it is a self-adjusting, ratcheting mechanisim)

If it is an firewall, adjustable clutch cable, or multi-hook quadrant, they must be loosened and allowed to give back to the length of it at the trans side.

Also, no - the throwout bearing should not be riding on the pressure plate fingers, there must be at least a 1/4" or so gap.

To make a long story shorter, the current configuration is set up for a more worn clutch disk, so provisions are needed to accomodate the new replacement.

it's an all stock setup. How exactly do you reset the quadrant to the #1 position?

IF it's a stock cable (non adjustable) you'll have to pry the arm to get it on. Huge pain if your by youself.

also I would wait till you have the trans in before you go connecting that cable.... if you connect the cable now it will shift the throwout bearing that's attached to the arms then you input shaft of the trans won't go in right. Trans in first then connect the cable.

I put a clutch in a friends car with a stock cable and that's what I had to do to get it on. My cars both have adjustable cables so I just run and thru and twist on the nut.

well I didn't want to mess it up, especially since it's not my car. i don't ever recall problems when I did mine, but that was quite a while ago

I used a pry bar and I was by myself. Kinda hard to do and like I said before an extra set of hands would help a lot. Hard to find a spot to pry off of. Once it is on make sure the car goes into all gears and that the clutch is grabbing in the right spot before you go driving it anywhere. Much easier with an adjustable cable. Just me but good time for an upgrade.

well it's not my car we're doing this on and my friend doesn't exactly have the funds for a new adjustible setup or the time, he has to work tomorrow, so we gotta get this done. It's frustrating, there is like a 1/2 distance from the arm to the cable if that helps at all

i used a very big C clamp.. cost me 10 bucks and works like a charm.. i surprised noone else mentioned it

you need to adjust the stock quadrant all the way back , put the cable in the clutch arm , then readjust the stock quadrant by putting your foot behind the pedal and pulling up .

If you dont understand this let me know and I will take a pic of a stock quadrant I have in the garage to show you what I mean .

I know about pulling the pedal back until you hear a click after everything is set, but I guess I'm clueless about what you're talking about

or u can just use the clamp and slip that bad boy right in lol.. doesnt require any adjusting.. cept for the clamp

there's no way to pry enough without messing something up. I'm down there just giving her hell. There has gotta be some way to give half an inch or more to hook on there. THERE HAS GOTTA BE

wish I knew another way but that's the only way I've ever done it.
