Clutch Cable - Can't get back on

I'm swapping out the clutch cable and having a world of trouble getting it back on the fork. I've tried prying it and I can't get any leverage; the exhaust is still in. It seems as though the fork will have to come all the way foreward to get the cable back on; and theres no way in hell I'll be able to do that. I tried putting the old cable back in, but the same problem exists; the cable is the same length, which is too short to get over the fork easily. What can I do here?

Stock clutch cable quadrant or aftermarket cable adjuster?

Stock everything.

The cable knob is about 3" away from the fork, and the clutch is stiff as hell.

Well I FINALLY pried the cable back on to the fork, but I've run into another problem. The stock quadrant fails to self-adjust. Pulling the pedal up doesn't do anything. Now, the clutch is disengaged even when the pedal is all the way up. Perfect. Anyone know how I can get that stock quadrant to reset itself?

Alright...here's the problem as it stands:

I've got an out-of-commission LX and a daily-driver vert GT. The LX has a MM quadrant, MM firewall adjuster, and new stock cable. I took those out and transfered them over to the GT, but the cable is STILL to short to accommodate any type of adjustment whatsoever, even with the fwa turned all the way in. This is the exact same setup I had on the LX, and it was perfect, with the fwa turned out with about an inch of thread exposed...on the LX that is. Now why the hell won't the EXACT same setup work with the vert? It's driving me nuts, I've spent most of the day on this. Is my only option to order a Steeda double-hook or adjustable cable to see if that gives me more adjustment versatility??? It just seems rediculous that the same MM equipment and same exact cable don't work like it did on the LX.

And for the record, I hit the fusebox taking the old quadrant out, shorted something, and fried my battery. I guess you can say things are going well.

Are you real sure you have the cable routed the same on both cars (and properly)?

I cant think of much else. Where is Jeremy?

The cable is routed the same, but I've come to find out that the cable routing doesn't even matter. The two ends ultimately end at the same spot anyway, so regardless of how the cable is routed, it will be the same length.

Maybe I can modify the cable to release more slack? Perhaps "strip" the insulation down and replace the plastic that goes over it?

Try getting an adjustable cable to work with it.. Try putting the old cable back in and see if it does the same thing as the new one. I had this same problem once the new cable was the problem. I put on a bbk firewall adjuster and the old cable along with a steeda clutch quadrant. It fixed the problem.

I tried the old cable too, it is the same length. I'm going to try my luck at stripping the insulation down about 1" to see what that does for me.

Thats not gonna work. The cable is still the same length. and it does have to be routed right. You may think it doesent but it does.

It did work. Regardless of how the cable is routed, the length of cable exposed from the insulation will be the same. By cutting the insulation back, I was able to 'lengthen' the exposed part of the cable to give me more slack with adjustability. Now don't ask me why I needed to do this...it's the weirdest problem I've ever had. The same exact setup worked differently in another 93 fox.
