Ok- Got the new spec stage 3 clutch and my TKO 600 in. I am still running the stock clutch cable.

The clutch wants to let out at the top which I dont like. Its literally almost all the way out before it engages.

How do I go about adjusting this?

Thanks.

You'd want to introduce some slack into the cable. Your FWA would be the means to achieve this.

Good luck.

Ok I will have to get one- but in the mean time how to I adjust the stock one with the firewall adjuster? Is that in the car or in the engine compartment? I have swapped tranny's out many times but never messed with adjusting the cable..

Are you asking where the firewall adjuster is? If so, it's at the firewall, just below the vacuum tree, and replaces the rubber grommet that is currently on your stock cable. I wouldn't recommend using it with the stock quadrant. If you need to adjust with the stock quad, just lift up on the clutch pedal and it should reset the quad.

FYI - the best cable is an OEM Ford cable. The "Ford Racing" cable that can be found for about $35, is not actually the OEM cable - it's the Steeda cable and wore out on me after 5,000 miles. Maximum Motorsports sells an OEM Ford cable for $58. This is the best deal I've found. MM also makes a very nice quadrant. Goodluck.

GT Rich, do you have a source for the info about the clutch cable being made by Steeda? I think someone on the Corral mentioned that last night but I havent been back to hear the source yet.

So I just lift up on the pedal itself and then use the piece on the firewall to adjust it?

I am sorry for all the questions...I am retarted.
You are talking about two different means of adjusting the clutch. If someone has both on the car, it's likely the cable was stretched so they added a FWA to allow further adjustment.

For a stock quadrant and pawl, you pull up on the clutch pedal. That's it, you're done.

For an aftermarket quadrant with a FWA, you would turn the FWA clockwise to introduce more slack into the cable (so it engages lower).

You can do both (though pulling up on the pedal will make the pedal engage higher, not lower (I would use the FWA only).
Good luck.

HISSIN...I've only read that too. Sorry - wish I had a better source than BS on the internet. I will tell you for certain that the universal Ford cable I bought from Maximum Motorsports is different than the Ford Racing cable from Summit (both were the non-adjustable types). I had both of them in my hands this weekend to compare when I switched them out. I've heard Ford Racing doesn't make anything they sell - it's all outsourced to other aftermarket places.

I talked to my roomate and he said that I dont have a firewall adjuster...*sigh* 4 days out from the woodward dreamcruise and I have dropped 3g's in my car in the last 3 weeks...I probably wont make it even after all of that. I guess I will try and get another cable.

GT Rich, thanks for the feedback. :nice: You're right about the parts sourcing. Matter of fact, it seems to me that the Ford non-adjustable cables are made overseas (until a year or two back, they weren't). I've had better luck with mine than you did with yours.

120 Plus - is this clutch cable thing keeping you from attending the cruise? If so, I'd figure a way to get a new quadrant and FWA. Or at a min, I suppose you could toss an adjustable cable on the existing quadrant (or reset the quadrant/pawl mesh and dont let it ratchet so tight - using the existing cable). There's gotta be a way around this - it's not that big of an issue.
