Ok well i've been having some issues with my tranny and possibly my clutch (so i thought) it would pop out of second sometimes, be hard to put into gear, grind second and reverse occasionally, ect . I tried changing the fluid a couple weeks ago and that didn't help . So today i decided to fiddle with my firewall adjuster again, upon opening the hood i notice that the clutch cable is bent or kinked about 3 or 4 inches from the firewall. I decided to go get a new adjustable cable from ford. I called a buddy who could help me and has more experience with mustangs than i do. So on my way to his shop it just gets harder and harder to put into gear/shift and so on untill it finally broke the cable So i limp it to his shop with no clutch. We replace the cable and now it shifts smooth is very easy to put into gear , basically it seemed to solve all the problems i've been having with it. Only thing is now the clutch engages/disengages with the pedal almost all the way out. We tried adjusting the firewall adjuster with no avail. I also have a metal/adjustable quadrant with 3 places to put the cable at, when i put the new one in i put it on the one farthest from the firewall/closest to the dash, simply because thats how the old one was . So we where thinking that maybe we need to put it on the middle one to loosen it up some and then maybe we could adjust it , but we ran out of time so we'll have to wait till sunday to get back to it.

any suggestions for me?

sorry for the long post.:SNSign:

yeah, try the middle hook. thats how i used to have mine and it worked fine. that will give you a little more adjustment with the cable. good luck

I agree with ECU- the middle hook should give you more slack.

Good luck.

What is the age and condition of the clutch? One sign of a worn clutch is a heavy pedal (causing stretching/breaking cables) and the clutch letting out with the pedal almost completly released. Popping out of gear and some shift, clutch engaugment issues can have to do with the condition of the pilot berring and/or the berring retainer.

If your clutch is worn, go ahead and replace it, because otherwise your going to continue to have issues.

Well see thats the bad thing about buying a used car......

I have no clue how old or what brand the clutch is. After all this christmas stuff is over i'll be able to afford a tranny rebuild and a new clutch and hopefully an alluminum ds.

I am used to keeping an eye peeled for folks doing name changes, but I dont even understand your new username man. ECU was easy for me to spot.

Glad you are again recognized.
