i recently installed adouble hook clutch quadrant kit .but the cable keeps coming loose.it literally takes about two minutes with the engine running for it to come loose i doesnt even have to be driven any help would be greatly appreciated

im not sure what type of cable but yes we insalled the fire wall adjuster as well ...alls i know is that its a double hook qaudrant.and it keeps coming loose at the quadrant i have it hooked up to the hook farthest away from the firewall..i bought the quadrant kit from american muscle

the first time it came loose i realized when we installed the quadrant the two spacers needed to be on the inside not one on each side so i fixed that...then i realized that when i set the adjustment on the firewall adjuster i didnt set it by screwing in the allen key on the side of the adjuster so i did that n still the same thing happened....with in jus a few minutes with the engine runing the cable started to loose tension

so i went down to the transmission and tighten the cable instead of using the firewall adgjuster and i hooked the cable on the hook closest to the fire wall and what do you no it came loose again plaease im in desperate need of some help./

Aha! So it IS an adjustable cable.

Rule number 1 about Fords with cable operated clutches. BUY AND OEM cable.

Since you have the firewall adjuster there's no need for an adjustable cable. Go to Maximum Motorsports, the Latemodel Mustang Performance Suspension Leader!
and get yourself a quality cable.

While you wait for it to arrive, review the installation instructions for your quadrant and ensure that you have it installed correctly.

do you think thats the reason why it coming loose....well ill go ahead and grab that cable but ill give you detailed intrutions to what we did first we took the plastix stock quardant off and insstalled the new metal one then we installed hte firewall adjuster but when we installesd the cable we had to rubber the rubber groment and shave the nubs off of the white piece that goes into the fwa (should we have cut the whole white piece off) then we put the cable on the quadrant then at the transmision. and tigheten it @the trnsmission so there would be a lot of adjusmet space at the firewall..

so they you are telling me i dont need the adjustable cable being i have a fwa right

Correct no need for adj cable with the FWA, you installed it correct as far as removing rubber bushing and shaving the nubs, thats standard with most FWA. The only way the cable should be able to come off is if there is not enough tension on the cable or it is mis aligned. (that is what the spacers are for). Check the alignment of the cable as is comes in through the firewall, it should be straight into the quadrant.

Mu concern with your adjustable cable is that it may not be holding up its end. What I mean, is that when you're putting tension on the cable that the adjustable end of your cable (at the clutch fork) is not staying put.

With the help of a buddy, you should be able to check this.

i used the spacers that came with the kit and it seems to line up straight ill do the whole buddy thing and make sure it not losing tension but what gets me is when i tighten the cable at the firewall its good but as soon as i let the car run for amin it looses tension i dont even have to drivei t it does it its own.

Do you have LT's? Could the cable be stretching?

Did you put a reference mark on the FWA so you could be sure it was holding its adjustment (to be sure the set-screw is tight enough and holding)?

Is the cable's ferrule definitely seated in the quadrant?

im not sure to sure about what lts are but i tighten the adjustment screw pretty tight i couldnt move the adjuster but hand no matter how hard i tried..but no i didnt mark any adjustment marks either....this whole thing is making me regret changing the quadrant to the after market set up the plastic one was giving me problems to.but all n all my car sat all winter and jus got a nice new paint job over the winter and i jus wanna cruise already...i really appreciate the help you guys are giving me though ima have to get back at the wrenching next weekend and hopefully sove my prob even if i have to get another clutch cable
