Having trouble with repairing the previous owners mistake on my snake's clutch.

Previous owner installed a McLeod DF Clutch, Fidanza alum flywheel and a 26 spline input shaft...however they installed the T/O bearing incorrectly causing it to always put slight pressure on the clutch. This caused the clutch to smoke fairly quickly.

Anyway, we replaced the smoked parts with new identical parts and ran into a problem. Right before installing the driveshaft we noticed theclutch fork was out far enough that it was bottoming out on one of the bolts holding the bellhousing to the trans case. The bolt was causing the fork to twist a little bit. We inspected it some more and the fork had the imprint of the bolt head on it suggesting it had been hitting for some time.

The T/O bearing was also putting some pressure on the pressure plate as well so we are worried it will slip a little.

So what should prevent the fork from bottoming out? Does anyone have pics of the stock clutch fork in the trans?

Should the clutch cable prevent the fork from extending back far enough to bottom out on the bolts? Does this mean out cable is stretched?

Here is a pick of the clutchfork showing damage from the bolthead and the end of the fork that we found damaged when we opened the inspection plate and pulled the tranny to replace the clutch.
