Hey, I am having some clutch problems in my 91 coupe. I'm not too sure what the problem is, It has a fairly new complete drivetrain setup. It has a tremec tko500, spec clutch st. 3, steeda short throw, ect. The problem i'm having is it is very hard to put into any gear. The clutch pedal is really stiff and i have to push it down to the floor to get it into gear, It's like trying to put a brick threw the wall. It don't pop out of gear or anything just grinds really bad if the clutch pedal isn't all the way to the floor. Once i need to shift into 2-5 gear i have to still push the pedal to the floor hard as i can or it will grind gears bad! Reverse from a stop is almost impossible to get it into unless i put it from 5th to reverse. However it still has a stock style non adjustable clutch cable which i was thinking the problem is. Like i said the complete drivetrain is almost new (3-4000 miles). This problem needs to be fixed or it's going to wear my transmission out, Any ideas will be great. Please anyone know what it could be?

If you have the OEM quadrant/pawl, pull up on the clutch cable to adjust it.

If you have an aftermarket quadrant, you need a FWA or [adjustable cable] to remove some of the slack that you probably have in the adjustment. The OEM style cables and a FWA are the preferred combo (over an adjustable cable).

Good luck.

The pedal shouldn't be that stiff. Check the routing of your cable. It should pull straight at the fork, not at an angle. If you have it at any angle it greatly increases the pedal effort. As far as not going into gear, you need to remove more freeplay. It shouldn't engage at the floor.

It's a stock clutch cable and quadrant. I will check the cable and see if there is any play somewhere. Some people are telling me it could be the clutch fork or TO bearing. But like you said EMW150 it could be at a angle causing that. Is a clutch cable really that hard to adjust? The guy i got it off of said he adjusted it the best he could, But he prolly didn't do something right. The car is a 347 stroker that has a sh** load of torque, Maybe it just wore the stock cable out

Get rid of that stock quadrant as soon as possible and get yourself one with a firewall adjuster. The stocker will break soon.

my spec is very stiff also. I would make sure you don't get an adjustable cable they break easier and are less reliable. I bought the BBK quadrant, firewall adjuster and cabel and love it!

I had a steeda quadrant, firewall adjuster and cable. I didn't put it on because i sold it, I might try a BBK this time.
