I have a 97Gt 5 speed. I took my flywheel in and had it machined, the guy didn't know how much he took off exactly but said he took off a lot. I installed a King Cobra clutch set with the flywheel, had major clutch chatter and have about two 50 cent sized hot spots where you can stick a .006 feeler guage on the flywheel and pressure plate. That's only 63 miles later. I had the machine shop look at it and he sent me out to the place that makes the flywheel grinder they use to see if they could see what's wrong.
The guy said for every inch flywheel they allow a half a thousandth runout. Well 14" flywheel would mean seven thousands is max for runout. Well I had 11 thousands on the outside with 6 near the center. The guy said that it wasn't machined properly overall.
Well to make a long story short after already buying a new clutch set again and stock flywheel from the dealer ship to get my car up and moving again so I don't have to wait.. The place that machined the flywheel was trying to write a check out as fast as he could for the machining I paid for and nothing else that the improper machined flywheel took out with it.
Is there any sites that show or say if a flywheel is too thin it can cause this or that? Would you use a pressure plate that has hot spots on it only if there was 63miles on it?There is no minimum thickness to machine the flywheel too from a dealer or machine shop. A pressure plate that has hot spots on it isn't useable unless I want the clutch to slip and wear out quicker then what it's life was suppose to be? I'm looking at taking them to court to get the money I had to spend to get my car running due to their neglegance with the flywheel. Anyone have any advice, any sites that put it in black and white what could happen if the flywheel is machined too thin? hot spots? I've been looking with no such luck so far.
Also no machine shops or transmission shops in town will put anything in writing for me due to them all working together if need something.
