Hey guys i just got done putting in a king cobra clutch in my 87 gt. There is alot of play in the pedal and the clutch won't disengage. Everything is in right so the next thing that can think of is the cable. Is there a way to adjust the cable or do i have to buy a new adjustable one. Thanks for helping a newbie out.

So are you saying you had to push the clutch fork in just to get the cable on there? I had to do that on mine too and the pedal was stiff and grabbed right at the top. After about 50 miles it went back to feeling like it used to and picked up closer to the floor. Try adjusting the pedal

Do you have the stock quadrant and pawl? If so, lift up on the pedal to make it self-adjust.

Have you adjusted your current adjustable cable?

Good luck.

he doesnt have an adjustable cable from what i read....

and it sounds like his cable is too loose... too much free play, not disengaging all the way

i would adjust your cable either at the quadrant or at the fork and tighten it up a bit to see if it helps any... havent seen a stock cable but im sure theres a few nuts on the end that you can adjust at the fork with right?

Nope stock cable has no adjustment at the fork. One thing you can do in a pinch if the cable is a little loose is take a hex nut for a 3/8 inch bolt, cut one side of it all the way through so you can spread it open, and then slip that over the cable. So you'll have the part on the end of the cable at the fork that is fixed and then just below that the nut. The nut will give you maybe an extra 1/4 inch or so. It's a rigged way to go about it but it would be enough to get you around until you get the right parts.

This was where I drew the inference that he already had an adjustable cable (The whole 'new' part suggested to me that he had an 'old' adjustable cable).

We dont know since he has not come back.

If you have the stock quadrant/pawl, pull up on the pedal and see if it ratchets (adjusts slack out).

Good luck.
