clutch is going

i'm pretty sure my clutch is going. when i am starting from a stop, i can hear squeaking and rattling when i let the pedal out. it does not seem to slip, but i have been driving very gently lately, so i don't know for sure if it would slip if i tried to make it slip.

it just started doing this the last few days.

i do not have the experience to try to take it on, and even if i could do it myself, the way things have been going lately, i do not have the time to do the work myself anyway.

how long do i have to shop around before it fails? this is my daily driver and i cannot take a chance on it failing and getting stranded somewhere. my wife would say "i told you not to buy that p.o.s"

i called the shop and they said for parts and labor it would cost $575 to fix it. is that reasonable? he said that includes the pressure plate, throw out bearing, and something else i can't remember right now.

or is there anyone in the DC area who feels like helping out a fellow stanger? i'll make it worth your time.

thanks, chris

is that a must do? resurface the flywheel when swapping clutches? Where can I buy another one?
it depends on the condition of the flywheel. mine didn't need it. i have heard though that you shouldn't get it resurfaced, you should get a new one instead.

a flywheel should always be resurfaced, unless one likes diminished clutch life, performance and a slipping clutch.

a Blanchard grinder is the best way i know of to resurface a stang flywheel. some guys use shims after the resurface, many dont.

good luck. on foxes, new flywheels can be had for ~100 bucks.

thing is, it was the TOB and pressure plate that went bad, the disk was ok still. and it wasn't slipping at all.
