I think I am going to go to a spec 2+ clutch kit in my mostly stock 5.0 it has full intake and full exhaust, gears and a shifter. I currently have a factory clutch, I think it's going out, should I also get a manual clutch adjuster??? Any input would be great. Also has anyone ran the spec clutches if so any reviews???

I have a Spec 1 and let me tell you.. on a stock car you AREN'T gonna want anything more. I used the stock quadrant/cable when I installed the clutch and it chattered quit a bit. I went with a steeda adjustable quadrant and cable kit and the problem was solved.

clutch "chatter" is a clutch disc problem, and NOT a quadrant/fwa problem.

spec stage 1 clutches are famous for chatter.

as well, stay far away from the spec clutches, they are WAY TOO MUCH GRAB, way too much on/off for your t5 trans.

the weak link MUST be the clutch. the spec clutches are absolutely bullitproof, and your t5 trans will give out every time b4 the spec. BOTH tremec and g force recommend AGAINST spec clutches...hint hint.

for a stock motor up to 300 horse, simply run the king cobra clutch at the most. cheap and efficient, can't go wrong.

I agree with most of what you said here except for the part about staying away from Spec. Tremec and G-force warn against a Stage III Spec clutch, not all clutches they sell. It's tough to beat the release characteristics of a Spec especially at high rpms. Excellent clutches. My recommendation for the origional poster, go with the Stage II.

A spec 2+ will be fine.

My preference though is a motorsport hd or king cpbra pressure plate with a mcleod disk.

I run the Spec Stage II clutch on my car and i have quite a bit more power than you do. When i bought the clutch i was planning ahead for an inevitable supercharger or turbo setup and i didnt want to buy another clutch. The stage II is like a light switch, but the pedal action is amazingly precise...i love the clutch. I grabs hard enough for any street application under 500HP. Dont listen to what those people say about staying away from spec clutches...they have the best pedal action i have driven so far, including CF, FRPP, and RAM.

Answer this, now that you have a bullitproof clutch, what is the weakest link in your drivetrain??? Only one choice, your trans.

i got a spec stage 1 when i swapped out the automatic, havent really beat on it yet (only got a couple hundred miles on it) but it works pretty good. cant say the same for the steeda cable i got though, feels like its trying to stretch already and ive only had it for 2-3 weeks.

I Wouldn't call a Spec II bulletproof. I completely exploded a Stage III two years ago and the trans was fine. You can't really treat a clutch like a fuse. Most transmission damage comes from harsh engagement not necessarily the holding power.

I wouldn't say Spec's are terrible, but I think there are better choices though as you alluded too...

lol, I was pretty damn drunk last night when I responded to this thread. truth be told, I love the way a spec feels, and now that I can rebuild my own t5's, maybe i'll reconsider a stage 2 next time

haha...i was going to say something a little meaner...but i'll chalk it up to the booze talkin! I love the spec feel. I would also like to mention that once you start making good power you should really reconsider a better tranny anyways...which i am in the market for. At that point a stage II will not really be a problem for a nice TKO or tremec. just my two cents.
