clutch noise question

i have a 2004 gt with a clutch noise. it has 27K miles on it. the noise is only there with the clutch pedal disengaged. as soon as i press the clutch pedal down the noise goes away. sounds like a rotational bearing typ noise.

If it's like a chirping sound then it's the throw out bearing. A grinding type sound when the clutch is pushed in is a symptom of the TOB also...

its only there when the clutch pedal is not pressed. when i press the pedal in the noise goes away.

If it is a chirping sound when the clutch pedal is not pressed but goes away when you even touch the clutch (literally tap it) then it's your TOB

would this also be a "cunch/click" type sound as well?

im still trying to diagnose my problem

when i push the pedal down all the way, as soon as it cant go anyfurther i hear a click/crunch noise for a quick second. doesnt happen all the time however

^ The grinding noise I'm talking about when depressing the clutch (TOB is bad) sounds more like a whiney power steering pump type sound than a click/crunch. Yours sounds like maybe the clutch should be adjusted or something? Is the sound coming from the transmission area or from the pedal area?

Pilot bearing/bushing?

i hate to take center stage in this guy's thread haha

i have two distinct noises..the one ive covered in a previous thread, and this one now

for some reason i want to say that one day as i was getting into my car my foot went behind the clutch pedal and got caught and i lifted the pedal higher than its resting position..this would probably explain this "click/crunch" noise

i could try resetting it i guess..

The thread starter shouldn't mind, considering that we are talking about trans noises and may end up helping him out too ....

As for getting your foot behind the clutch pedal, that's how you are 'supposed' to reset it. Pull up on the clutch pedal and then press it to the floor and that is supposed to reset it. Try that and see if it helps any.

Your issue in the other thread is something mysterious.

it doesnt help that i have it here at college and not at home to get underneath

im a little nervous about jacking a car up in a arking lot and climbing underneath..just something i wont do

ill just wait a few more weeks to figure out that problem..or forget about it till spring

so i just came back from breakfast. i took the car over so i could reset the clutch. it seemed to have worked until i was coming back and i pushed the clutch in around the last turn into the parking lot that click/crunch noise came back

regardless of that though my clutch pedal feels excellent now. i should have reset it a long time ago.

however i was hoping that it was partially reset, giving me this strange noise :-\ o well

Try it again ... isn't gonna hurt. When you have time, check the cable and make sure it's not frayed or anything. Something on that little gear (adjuster part) could be what is clicking ... probably is actually. Lay down all crazy style with your head under the dash and look up by the clutch to see if anything seems out of wack.

your TOB is going.
Replace it soon, or else, your clutch can selfdistruct like mine did, because TOB was so bad that it pressed against pressure plate uneven

Deff sounds like a bad TOB and the clutch cable could be part of the clunky type chunky noise.

Make sure your stock quadrant isn't shot. If the teeth are ground down it could be adjusting and slipping back. If it's not that I'd replace the TOB just to be safe.
