Clutch pedal problems

Last night as I was driving home The clutch pedal started to act funky. It would stick just before the clutch would start to engage. I was going to put it off till monday, but the morning when I was driving off to work. It got worse overnight!!!! I would pretty much have to lift my foot off the pedal to get it to come out. I stuck my head up under the dash and I couldnt see anything work, but I cant really see much. I did find a lil piece of of a plastic tab down in the floor board. It sounds like metal is grinding on metal.

I would like to get this fixed before I go to school and work tommorrow!!!

That could be anything from a bad cable to clutch problems.

try disconnecting your cable, and depressing the clutch fork to the floor at the transmission. (may need to lay with your head at the rear end and use your foot to depress the fork. use JACKSTANDS> if it sticks, you've got clutch issues, if not, you've got clutch cable issues.

more than likely it's your clutch cable, but no promises there.

link in my sig has all kinds of good info on this subject.

buyfordracing.com will get you an oem clutch cable and brand new clutch fork to your door for $48

It sounds like your quadrant/pawl are coming apart. Dont be surprised if the clutch pedal stops actuating the clutch pretty soon.

A pic of the piece of plastic you found would probably help.

Good luck.

The piece of plastic I found.

the rubber bushing thing?

now its messing up my MM firewall adjuster :(

I know it has to do with that bushing but I have no idea how and where it is supposed to go.

AH HA!! I found the problems....

That black rubber bushing is circled on the right.

This is that black rubber bushing

I would put money on my guess, but this is the old firewall grommet thing. My car is plagued by the previous owner.:bang: This rubber grommet has always been stuck on my clutch lever, since I have owned this car.

That wasnt the only problem, though.

MM firewall adjusters are a POS. It will keep backing off the cable and it backed off so much that back of the quadrant was sticking on the firewall adjuster. I would recommend a locking firewall adjuster.
I modified my MM adjuster by putting a jam bolt in the piece that bolts to the firewall, but that even backs off

Needless to say my clutch is alot easier to push in and out.

Fix what's obvious first.

WTF, mine doesn't have that bushing at all. Hmmm.

That bushing was not supossed to be there in the first place. The DA previous owner left it stuck there.

Ok now to the problem I have always had. My clutch from engaged to disengaged is about 2 inches of foot movement. No matter how I adjust it; all it seems to do is move the place of initial engagement.

Here is a list of of clutch related parts: MM quadrant, cable, and Firewall adjuster. Clutch is a pretty new (2-3000 miles) Stage one Spec. I have a Jegs clutch fork, and a stock resurfaced flywheel.
