Have you adjusted the firewall adjuster any?

Was the cable an oem or adjustable?

When a cable first lets go, it can get a good bit of freeplay and then a day or two later the whole thing lets go (they can break in stages. I've lost two like that).

Sounds like that's a place to start IMHO, especially if you have faith in the rest of your install.

do NOT use an adjustable cable! they are too long. when you try and route the adj cable the way it should be routed, it kinks because of the extra length and the added bend to the circumference. I JUST went through this with my father on our SSP mustang....this is the reason why the aftermarket adj cables stretch and break...too much tension.

Since you've got to replace that cable anyhow, use the factory non adjustable one, and route it under the dr side motor mount, and don't bolt it up at the middle...this will provide the best arc.

You should also be able to pop the cover off of the clutch fork, and shine a flash light in there, You may get a sense of what's going on back there without pulling anything apart.
