In your sister. If none, your mom
I'm having problems since I had the car with the clutches. First had the King cobra in and it was totally finished. Replaced it with brand new flywheel and Spec stage2. Clutch grabs hard but here's my problem. It's like it has to be pressed 100% to the bottom for it to run. Not sure how to really explain it. If I need to start the car, the pedal needs to be to the FLOOR completely for the car to start cranking. Never did this last year. I always had thoughts that my stock quadrant was busted or so. Will a new clutch quadrant and firewall adjuster fix this ? BTW, not really sure what a quadrant does. My pedal is NOT hard to press. Just doesnt "work" where I should I guess.

Thanks

This is the package I've been looking at.

You mean, you turn the ignition and the car doesn't start unless the clutch is fully depressed?

Sounds like your safety switch is loose, or is ready to STB. I doubt a linkage kit will fix it.

Well I do know the clutch doesnt feel "right". And yes one problem is that when I want to start the car, I ABSOLUTELY have to have the clutch pressed in to the floor to start it.

My wife's did the same thing when we bought it. I changed the clutch pedal neutral start switch and the problem was gone. She got tired of pushing the pedal through the floorpan with heels on. Beats me..... :rlaugh:

Do you have to push the clutch that far down when shifting while driving? If it still has to move that far, then the cable/quadrant might solve your problem, if it shifts at a normal height while driving, look into what stangbear is saying. If you get a new cable, don't get an adjustable one, (adjustable cable, not firewall) the cables are all junk compared to non adjustable/stock.

Its maybe 2 problems then. Propably the safety neutral switch for the starting issue. And yes the clutch doesnt grab at normal height. Thats why I thought I needed a quadrant + firewall adjuster.

What do you all think of the MaximumMotorsports (link in my original thread) ?
Any other brands ?

thanks for the help.

The MM one is great, as long as you don't get their pedal relocation kit. It isn't compatable with their linkage kit with SPEC clutches, apparently. You don't want to know how I found that out. Other than that, it's about as good as it gets. I prefer the UPR extreme firewall adjuster, better than the MM one, IMO- which is saying alot, as I am a huge MM fan and have given them SEVERAL thousand dollars over the last few years. If your clutch isn't working right though, aside from the starting issue, it probably is that the stock linkage is shot, or out of adjustment at the least. It isn't uncommon for a new heavy duty clutch to be the straw that brakes the back of a seemingly healthy stock linkage assembly.

Which one is it from UPR ? The triple hook quadrant or the quick-release ?

Have you used both the MM quadrant and the UPR quadrant, to say that the UPR is better ?

Thanks

the switch for the starting is on the back of the clutch arm. mine is white. you can push the switch to adjust it. if the switch is getting toasty, once you bury the pedal while driving, it will reset back to its old self.

Jess, i am running dirty phrases through my mind - what is STB?

Triple hook.

Yes. It isn't the quadrant that's better, it's the firewall adjuster. The MM Firewall adjuster is no better than any other one out there, after years of confidence in them I was very dissapointed with it. The UPR Extreme is a far superior and more innovative design, much as I hate to say it. As for the quadrant, that depends. I prefer the UPR triple pickup because of the extra tunability. The MM one is a single pickup, which posed a problem for me. I have a new SPEC clutch, and the MM clutch pedal relocation kit which moves it closer to the floor. I got the MM linkage kit thinking it would be the best there is, to get the upgraded stock cable from them as well as their re-engineered quadrant and their FW adjuster, thinking it's good to get them all from the same place. Well, there wasn't enough throw with their cable to disengage the clutch fully, even with the FW adjuster cranked all the way out. Since the OEM cables aren't adjustable, and the MM quadrant only has one pickup point, there was no way to tighten it any more than that. IMO, it isn't a versitile enough kit to be sold as a universal linkage solution. I spent several hours on the phone with most of their techs and the engineer who designed it, while installing and tweeking, turning wrenches to their instructions, only to find that we weren't able to make it work. With the Ford Fox Mustang OEM cable ( not the OEM Ford one they sell in the kit) it was better, but still not good enough for me. So I still needed to put my UPR triple pickup quadrant back in to tighten it enough to make it work smoothly. At this point, the only MM linkage part still installed was the FW adjuster, the only part I wasn't impressed with at all. So, I sent the whole kit back. They test their clutch parts with McCloud clutches exclusively- if we have any other type we're on our own. Now, with my OEM cable and UPR quadrant and FW adjuster, everything works as it should. I think in this one area, MM needs to go back to the drawing board before claiming theirs is the best. it may be if you have a McCloud clutch, or don't use the MM pedal relocator, otherwise it isn't anything special despite having some nice features.

Sh*t The Bed.

Thanks Stangbear427 for that excellent explanation. I'll be buying the Extreme firewall adjuster and the triple hook quadrant from UPR. :nice:

*Note*
I didn't take the time to remove my MM pedal relocation kit, since there was no way I would perminantly remove it. That being said, I cannot say with impunity that the MM linkage kit isn't one of the best out there otherwise. It's probably fine. The kit has many innovative features that the others don't. The firewall adjuster however, isn't up to MM standards of excellence IMO.
