Clutch problems.

So, first of all, wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas!

Now down to business. Monday night, I was driving home from work, and out of nowhere, I started hearing awful grinding noises when I'd depress my clutch. My 96 has over 150k miles on the stock clutch, so I'm thinking that it went out. Even if it's something simpler than the clutch being shot, I'd still like to replace it in favor of a new one.

Oh, by the way, those who remember, I had a thread asking for wheel/tire size advice. I got them in Monday, right after my clutch went out. -_-

I've found Clutch Set by Perfection - Part MU70152-1 - Advance Auto Parts. The set seems to be everything I'd need in order to replace it (however, input is appreciated).

My question is, how hard is it to replace a stock clutch? And if it can be completed by my stepdad and I, any links or references to give me maybe a walk through? I'd really like to save some money here and do it myself if at all possible, and above all else, I've recently got bitten by the car and performance bug. :D

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks, and again Merry Christmas!

It's the throwout bearing. The piece that rests on the input shaft (over the bearing retainer), and is connected to the clutch fork. 150k life out of the stock throwout bearing sounds damn good to me, so this is definitely to be expected. My stocker lasted less than 90k miles! As for a writeup, you can find many tech articles here by searching, although I'm not sure if anything would be different for the v6 model compared to a GT. Someone will chime in.

Oh, and the job can definitely be done with 2 people. I've done it multiple times by myself, with my girlfriend to bring smokes and beer, and that's it. It helps to have another set of hands though, especially when it comes time to bench the tranny down if you don't have a jack to hold it up. :nice: Good luck!
