Here's my story, sorry in advance for it's length!
The clutch in my 89 notch is a bit on the 'old' side (close to 10 years since it's been done) - It's a Motorsport HD clutch, with an aluminum quandrant and adjustable cable. Other than a really stiff pedal, it's been working fine - no noise, no chatter, no slippage. The other night on the way home coming to a stoplight as I engaged the clutch it started squealing really loudly, and the car acted like it wanted to stall.. As the light turned, I gave it some gas and put it back in gear (without any problem or grinding) and as soon as it was back in gear and I was under steam again, the squealing went away.. No squealing from continued shifts up to highway speeds either. As soon as I got to another light, same thing, almost stalling, ear shattering squealing coming from under the car (right where the clutch is), and again, gas, gear and squealing stops.
Anyone ever encounter this? I did check my belt on the outside chance that was making the noise, but it's fine - It only exhibits these symptoms when coming to a stop or idle.... I'm thinking maybe a seized bearing? Would I do damage if I tried to drive it to my mechanic?
What do you guys think? Thanks in advance....
Nick
