clutch questions & problems

Last week I swapped the AOD for a tko500. My problem is that around 3000rpms I get a bad chatter from the bellhousing.

I installed a king cobra clutch. I have only manage to get 40 miles on The clutch & tranny, so I' ve not gone beyond 3000rpms.

The chatter doesn't seem to effect performance, And the clutch feels the best I have ever had. I did notice that it does it in every gear except 5th gear.

I even get the chatter when not in gear and in rev or bring the rpms to about 3000.

My question is there a certain way the pressure plate needs to be aligned with the flywheel for balance purposes.

Because I didn't line anything up on the install. I know the flywheel & clutch pressure plate (Both of them New) had paint marking on them. But I didn't think these marking needed to be aligned any certain way for balancing.

Did you use dowel pins on the flywheel?

I also think you're mis using the word chatter....chatter is defined as the shaking so to speak of the clutch only on take off....it feels like a shuddering as you let the clutch off.

what you speak of sounds like vibrations...as hissin said, did you use the dowlpins on the flywheel? If you didn't have any then it's likely the pp is off center...also make sure you got the correct 50 oz flywheel, and not an early 81 and older 28 oz piece

yes, on the dowel pins. I have installed clutches before. It has just a while.

I am concerned about the balance of the clutch because I went threw the haynes manaul and they mention that before you remove the clutch to mark the relation of the flywheel to the pressure plate so you can but them back on the way they came off.

But every thing I have seen for installing a new clutch has not mentioned this. Now I have the chatter that I have no idea What it is. I do plan to take it all back apart tommorrow.
