clutch slipping??

this past week I've noticed that at some instances, specially when back up or start out on first, I hear my clutch slip, well at least that's what i think it is. and I smell it burn a little to. I dont abuse my car, but I dont have a heavy foot on the clutch either, so i dont think that it's because of misuse that this is happening, anyone has any ideas?? thanks !

BTW, I dont see any oil leaks, 'cept for my valve covers, that doesn't even come close to the rear of the engine, so, I 'm kinda lost here.

I'm not sure but I don't really think it's possible to hear your clutch slip but I may be wrong. I would think that if it was that far gone you could feel is very easily. For me I replaced mine when I was out driving and would step on it and the rpms would come up and the speed stayed the same. Can't remember wether you have to romp it in a lower gear or lightly accelerate.

The cable is not preloaded, right?

Though infrequent, weak diaphram fingers can cause issues.

Clutch slip test:

set parking brake and slowly let out the clutch in first gear all the way and the car should stall immediatly.

If it continues to run even for a second after the clutch is up= slipping.

TO bearing is new as well, but still possible, I know. well I guess its not my clutch that I hear but, it's whirring sound almost, it happens intermitently, when I get it up on a rack it never does it, did that test of letting the clutch go when in gear, yup, stall right away.

not really sure what you meant by peloaded, if you meant presetting it whenI put on the calbe, adjuster and all that stuff, yes, I pretty sure, it is.. sorry don't really know what you meant.

Preloaded would mean there is no slack in the cable...and maybe so tight that it never fully engauges the clutch when you let up completely on the pedal.

If you have a firewall adjuster, make it so the pedal goes down an inch or so before it compresses the pressure plate springs as you push on the pedal. (a little play)

ya know I think that is my problem, come to think of it. I think it doesn't go an inch down, so I guess that's too tight, then?

Having a hair of preload is actually spec. But I dont do it. I leave .5-1" of freeplay in my clutch pedal - I dont engage on the floor anyhow (engaging off the floor or a TOB on the outs would be the only reasons I would preload a cable).

I would just put some slack in it - just enough so you can feel freeplay in the pedal, and see how it does.
