Ok....another problem I noticed today. When I press the clutch to change from 1st to 2nd gear when the pedal gets to the floor it feels like theres a "pop" in the clutch or tranny...it's not a sound but a feeling...like a jolt....but it ONLY does it between 1st and 2nd gear....all the others are smooth. Help?

I have the same exact problem.Last year I had a new Ford clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing and pilot bearing installed because it was needed.I did not have the problem until the new items were installed.I just ordered a new pivot ball, clutch fork and cable.A mechanic at my Ford dealer suspects the pivot ball but I ordered the other items just in case. Its all only a guess. My problem is not all the time though.I do notice if I am hard on the clutch it has a tendency to eliminate the noise.Anyone else have any info for us???Thanks.

My pop will actually go away if I'm hard on the gas/clutch.I don't have any clunking noise though just that iritating small pop noise.

just a thought, but the stock plastic clutch quadrants can sometimes make that noise, maybe try replacin it with a metal aftermarket one.

The noise is definitely in by the trans. The quadrant is in the car and the noise is not coming from that.I don't know if a bad quadrant would cause a noise that far down into the trans.Thanks.

Have any of you guys taken apart your tranny to look at the bearing retainer? Or at least taken off the clutch boot and look inside to see how it is. The T/O bearing could be hanging up on a groove and then popping off it. It could also be the pivot bolt and the clutch fork. Since it happens only when you push the clutch all the way in, and at that point the fork and pivot bolt point would seem to have the greatest pressure between them.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Sounds like you guys have mostly got it covered, but I am no driveline specialist. Have you tried searching for the clunk with the car on stands and someone else pressing it? Take the dust covers off and look up into the bell with a good flashlight while its operating. With the engine off of course, and the car very secure on jack stands.

I have had the car on a lift with the side cover off and it does sound like it is inside the trans.I am hoping to replace the ball and fork and have my noise go away.

mine only does it while shifting between 1st and 2nd.....with car running/moving....it doesn't do it when the car is off or between any other gears.....as long as i'm easy on it it doesn't seem to be a problem....but everynow and then i just want to get on it.....hehe...its not that bad on mine and i'm broke...so it'll just have to stay there a while...
oh well...good luck red
