Alright ya'll, I am stumped. I got in the car this morning to take the youngun to school, and when I tried to start the car it lunged forward almost as if I didn't have the clutch in. I pulled it out of gear, and then it started fine. I tried to put it in reverse to back it out of the garage, and it would just grind the gears. It was almost like the clutch was not engaging. I can't figure out what is wrong. The cable isn't broken, and I don't know what else it could be. I looked at the clutch fork and cable and all is well. I even looked in the bell housing and saw nothing out of the ordinary. The wife drove it last night and she said it was just fine when she pulled it in the garage. We had some flash flood conditions last night, and she had to drive through a big puddle, but other than that nothing happen that would have broken anything. She doesn't beat on the car at all when she drives. It is a 2000 GT, with 84,000 miles on it. What do I do?????

Yikes. When my clutch went I couldn't get it out of gear. It totally sheered two of the pads right off. It did very similar to what yours is doing. I couldn't get it into gear, just ground like crazy. Sounds like your clutch could be shot.

Any chance it is just the cable?

Should I just go ahead and replace the whole clutch and the cable, or just the clutch? What should I do? Do I need any special tools for the install?

You dont need specials tools or anything, you would need a swivel joint and extensions but other that install is simple.
