Cobra brake writeup

hi all, I was wondering if there was a cobra brake install on a sn95 write up somewhere..


also does the axle have to be pulled to get the rears in? seems like more of a pita then i bargained for

I am 99% sure you have to take the axles out.

why would you have to pull out the axle?

If you're doing the rears, the axle does need to come out in order to mount the rear brackets. The fronts are very easy to swap though. Taking my time, I had them done in like an hour and a half. The reason I didn't get the rears yet was because of the axle needing to come out. I'll wait until I do new bearings/seals/diff/gears/31 spline axles for those.

Im just going to get the kit that puts bigger rotors on the stock brakes when I get my new brakes.

I don't have a write-up for the front, but its really quite simple to do.

Remove the stock front brakes by first disconnecting the brake line fitting at the flex line by the inner fender, and removing the bolt for the retaining bracket. Next, instead of wasting your time with the torx bolts that hold the caliper to the bracket, just remove the entire caliper/bracket assembly by removing the two 15mm head bolts on the steering knuckle. With these out, you should be able to remove the caliper assembly from the rotor without forcing it too much. i used a big C-clamp to compress the piston a bit to free it up. Next the rotor should just come off, or like in m case, a BFH comes in handy for this.
Now you can put on the new rotor and caliper assembly the same as the GT stuff came off, just bolt-up the new caliper assembly and use loktite on the bolt threads, and torqur to spec. Connect the new flex line to the caliper using the correct banjo bolt and 2 copper crush washers. Thread the other end of the flex line to the hard line on the inner fender and re-install the bracket bolt.
Thats all there is to it. Now bleed the whole system starting from the passenger side rear wheel and work your way up.

As for the rear, I just ended-up putting new pads and rotors on, and painted the calipers red to match the front. I couldn't justify pulling the axles (which involves removing the ABS sensor, which I heard horror stories about) and going through all that trouble for a small gain in braking performance. The front kit was worth every penny though.

Pulling axles is pretty easy...just messy cuz you have to deal with smelly gear oil. But yea the baer rear kit isnt bad. Thats what I run and no problems with it. The rotors arent vented but I run a street pad and open track the car and have absolutely no problems with it. It costs a bit mor but not much and its another option.

With 2 guys pulling the axles is easy.. and it is nice to change out the diff fluid every once in a while too...
