Cobra brakes on my GT

I know this has been asked before but I need to know for sure what to get and do. I want to get rid of the stock rotors and calipers on my 96GT because I got new chrome bullets and the brakes look like crap. I want a good replacement setup and like the painted or powdercoated or whatever they are red cobra calipers. I also want slotted rotors that will stay fairly good looking. Can you guys tell me what I can use and how difficult of a swap it will be? I mean can I use cobra brakes on my GT without to much trouble and is it better to get new ones or try and find used ones? Also, will any slotted rotors work with the red calipers? I really want a brake set up that looks good. If it helps to know, I will be doing a 1-1.5" drop when I do the brakes since it's already off the ground.
Thanks
Rob

All you need is the calipers, pads, rotors, and brake lines, and everything will be a direct swap. You can buy a kit for $400 I think that includes everything. If you want slotted rotors, just look for them, Ebay usually has a bunch. Just do your research first so you find a good set.

I just ordered the Bullitt Kit (13 inch rotors with red calipers w/running pony on them). This is the same as a cobra kit, just doesn't say cobra on a black caliper. For $399.99 plus shipping it comes with everything you need (2 front calipers, 13 inch Brembo rotors, mounting brackets, pads, and new brake lines). Looks like a straight forward installation. I should have the kit by tommorow, I'll report how the install went and how they perform. :nice: James

Where did you get it from and do they have kits for the rear?

I'll definitely be interested. I want to make it look nice. I'm not a huge fan of the pony on the caliper but I have a GT so I don't want the COBRA either. They are good looking though.

Intall is easy and straight forward. Got my kit from disc brakes r us as well:

Did anyone get the powdercotated rotors? I wonder if the silver would hold up? I want slotted rotors as well and if the kits come with rotors, red calipers, and steel hoses for 1199.99 I probably will get them. That seems pretty decent compared to going and getting the actual brakes from a used cobra. I wonder how good the powder coat on the calipers will hold up as well? If you don't get the powder coated rotors then how hard are they to keep clean?

So those are Cobra (not Bullitt) brakes on yours, but they look like they're painted like the Bullitt brakes only black. So did you repaint yours or anything or buy them like that? Thanks.

They are all the 2 piston PBR calipers, I just didnt want the word 'Cobra' on them. Also, I think that the black with white pony just looked better imo with a black car (also since no one else around here has them..it helped with the decision). Also, dont get the powder coated rotors, unless you are planning on cleaning your pads, calipers, and wheels after the first few times you step on the brakes and the the paint flings everywhere.
